Let's use this thread for the stuff we find on Tribe that makes us want to pull out a red pen!

I recently read, in a very thoughtful and intelligent argument mind you, the phrase *kew-des-tas* (I'm not quite sure if I have it spelled the same).

Even if Tribe does not have a check spelling feature, when we have a point that's worth writing about, let's have the sense to consult the dictionary! Not being a total in your face dork, I keep my red pen to myself...sometimes. Heck, I even go back and edit my posts for typos. Ahh, how many times I want to write, your as in your thought/you're as in you are....it's definitly damn it...

I hear you on this one....I've scrapped sentences and rephrased them because I couldn't find the correct spelling for one of the important words. But then I have a piss-poor electronic dictionary, and have lost my hardcopy. Very sad.

here's a great one...again, from a thoughtful and intelligent post:
    "for all intense and purposes"

    I'm all for the intense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i love this thread. i agree. i am too crampy right now to write out a thorough response, but i also scrap whole strings of thought if i have any doubts about the spelling or definition of a word.

yeah, we all know that one should be "for all intensive porpoises."

no no, it's "for all in tents. and porpoises." to include both campers and the aquatic mammals.

but to continue the thread . . . i had a testimonial on my home page from a friend of a friend . . . nice girl but not the drawer's sharpest cutting implement. She managed to make several common spelling/grammatical errors in a brief blurb ("your my new friend, its so nice to met you . . ." etc.) I felt honor bound to approve it because it would have seemed mean not to, but I cringed every time I saw it on my page. Luckily, she and the mutual friend had a falling out, and I was able to delete it with impunity. Made me feel really small minded, but hey, we all have our little quirks . . . and errors involving your/you're & its/it's are high on my cringe list.

Oh, but it's and its, and your and you're are *completely* interchangeable. Here's proooof:

You will utter no whine before its time.
You will utter no whine before it's time.

Your cringing at these places while you're reading satisfies you.
