omg, a tribe where my eccentric and eclectic use of english vocabulary will not fall upon the deaf ears of local rednecks and preppies? Wow! Hi! I'm Rich (well, not really, that's just my name =) ), looking for a good cerebral romp, and looking forward to meet ya all!

Hi--I'm an editor, writer, and hopeless geek. Have been known to get in bar fights over Latin vs. Greek roots. Once had a boyfriend refuse to write me love letters because he feared his vocabulary wasn't big enough (it wasn't. But other things were. heh heh). Have a big crush on David Foster Wallace *not* for Infinite Jest but for that harper's article on dictionary wars. Dorky enough for y'all?

      Yep-

I was laughing for fully five minutes when I first found this tribe listing. THANK YOU!

My qualifications: I believe in using all the wonderful words we have at our disposal. I find it sad that the American vocabulary keeps creeping down to the lowest common denominator.

When I was in undergrad down at UC San Diego, my friends and I had a joke about how some surfers could conduct an entire conversation using only 3 words ; 'wave,' 'dude,' and 'f--k.'

My name is Alicia and I love spelling, punctuation, and syntax! I get turned on when someone uses a semicolon correctly or consistently types only one space after a punctuation mark; I get turned off when someone says that they “did good” or uses only lowercase letters.

oops - alicia, you must hate reading my posts, since i've totally gotten into the habit of writing without caps. but at the same time, i know what you mean - things like that used to drive me nuts. still do really. i have a bit of experience with proof-reading, and at those times my radars are up and spelling, punctuation, proper grammar, and capitalization irritate me like anything.
at the same time though, i have to say that i am a strong supporter of personal expression and in bending the rules to suit the situation. so for things like writing emails or letters to friends or posting on the tribes network, i'd rather see people's personalities shine through their writing as opposed to seeing it written correctly.
as much as i love language and its correct usage, i love it even more when people write the way that they would ordinarily talk, and in talking, even i am guilty of slang and bad grammar, ya know? it's all good...
(hope this doesn't come off as sounding argumentative, cause that's not my intention. it's just the first thing that came through my mind when i read this last post, so me and my big mouth had to express that thought :)
          thanks for listening. peace, yo!

hello all. i confess my punctuation is terrible, but i do love words.

"moot" is my favorite misused word. it originally meant "open for debate." now it means the opposite.

encephaloskepsis: naval contemplation. (is this really a word, or is it a suggested word i picked up somewhere?)

parthenogenesis: sexless reproduction. speaking of which, i just learned what "onanism" means yesterday.

while i'm on the topic, anyone hear that joke where a boy's in the bathroom, and his sister, waiting to get in, yells "mom, timmy's macerating in the bathroom again!"

            maybe the perfect dorka joke.

i can't believe i misspelled "navel" in a word tribe.

                It's OK, Vann. It happens.

But I WAS on my way to the kitchen to look for oranges. It seemed as good a meditation technique, as any.

Hey ya'll...this is the best place ever! At least I don't feel so bad, especially when I hear someone else gets all hot when someone uses a semicolon!
Favorite word to say: reciprocity (it just sound so good!)
And must say...call someone Malorcus when ya'll have to be nice!

I recently discovered that this bloke I'm seeing has an instinctive grasp of title casing. (He's a photographer / lighting guy not a word guy. But he was typing some website copy, and got all the title casing right, including commonly screwed-up things such as upper-casing Is and It, and lower-casing and.) It made me **so** hot for him all over again . . .
