Tell you what, I'll seed the Petri dish with my "Pet Peeve du jour", hearkening from my geeky bend of skateboarding in the 80's: ollie Main Entry: ol·lie Pronunciation: 'ä-lE Function: noun Etymology: Ollie, nickname of Alan Gelfand b1963 U.S. skateboarder 1 : a maneuver in skateboarding in which the skater kicks the tail of the board down while jumping in order to make the board pop into the air 2 : a maneuver in snowboarding in which the rider transfers weight from the front to the back foot to snap the board up off the ground - ollie verb Now, when you try to conjugate the verb, you open a whole can of worms relating to spelling choices: Present Tense: Olliing? Ollieing? Past Tense: Ollied? Ollieed? All of this could have been easily avoided if they'd stuck to the Original term "Ollie Pop", making "Ollie" a slang reference to the Proper Noun/Verb, and consequently any conjugations with the slang are, by their nature, exempt from standard rules, norms, and expectations... :) Damn those folks at Mirriam Webster!
